30-man robbery gang unleash terror on residents of Abule-Egba in Lagos

A 30-man gang of suspected armed robbers have invaded three communities in Abule- Egba area of Lagos from where they carted away valuable property, inflicting injuries on their victims. Some residents of the area, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the robbers came at about 2.00 a.m. on Monday and operated for one hour. The residents said the gang brandished locally-made guns, cutlasses and axes, which they used in forcing their way into apartments. They said the robbers carted away at least 32 mobile telephones, jewelleries, a Plasma Television set, two laptops and N350,000 cash. A resident of one of the communities, Mr Wasiu Saka, said his flat was the first of the eight flats they broke into in the building. “I was asleep when I heard a loud noise in the main entrance as two of the robbers forced their way into my flat.
“They beat my three-year-old daughter and threatened to leave with my four- year-old son if I did not give them money,’’ Saka said. He said one of the robbers hit him on the face with his leg, collected three telephones, and N1,000, before they went to the next apartment. “At my neighbour’s apartment, they collected N6,500, two mobile telephones, beat him and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his head and leg. We had to rush him to the hospital,’’ he said. Another resident, Mr Israel Okafor, whose laptop and mobile telephones were snatched, said he woke up when he heard noise from the opposite building. Another resident, Mr Gbenga Adeyemi, said about eight of the robbers entered five flats in his building and went away with about 17 mobile telephones, N150,000, jewelleries and a new laptop worth about N74,000. Also affected was Mr Olasunkanmi Ganiyu, who said the robbers entered his house through the window as they could not gain access through the door
