A witness said the incident happened around 9:37 p.m. after the victim boarded a motorcycle at Sharp Corner road, behind University of Abuja mini campus to Old Kutunku village at an agreed price of N80.
He said on reaching Old Kutunku, however, the passenger brought out N60 for the cyclist, who immediately demanded for the remaining N20 but that the man refused to pay.
According to him, an argument ensued between the duo, adding that the cyclist held on the man’s shirt who in turn slapped the latter.
“Before we realized what was happening, the okada man also threw punches on him and in the process, the man started bleeding from his mouth and nose, with a tooth falling from the mouth,” he said.The witness said the man was later taken to a medicine store for treatment.
It was also learnt that the man had just left a drinking spot at Sharp Corner area of the town before boarding the commercial bike.
Effort to get reaction of the Gwagwalada Divisional Police Officer over the incident was not successful, while a police officer at the station said the division was not aware of the incident.
In another incident, a commercial cyclist was on Friday evening knocked down by a hit and run driver near Chikara village on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
A witness said the incident happened around 8:34 p.m. as the cyclist left Abaji town to Chikara village.
He said the victim was taken to St. Mary Catholic Hospital at Abaji for attention.
When contacted, Abaji unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Moses Audu, said he was not aware of the incident, but said he would find out from his men.
