The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the results of the governorship election in Akwa-Ibom State from eleven out of the 31 government areas of the state.
Of the results so far released, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is leading the other 15 political parties with overwhelming votes.
The results released were those of Onnah, Ini, Okobo, Nsit Atai, Etim Ekpo, Ika and Nsit Ibom local government areas.
Others were those of Ibiono-Ibom, Oruk Anam, Etinan and Obot Akara.
The results of the elections in the eleven local government areas were declared by their Presiding Officers in the presence of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Austin Okojie and the INEC Chief Returning Officer of the state and incidentally, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor James Spoke.
But the Governorship candidates of the Accord Party, Bishop Sam Akpan and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obong Umana Umana have rejected the results so far declared alleging gross irregularities and massive abuse of the electoral process by the PDP.
The aggrieved governorship candidates accused the PDP of hijacking election materials especially, result sheets where they took to the private residence of the party chieftains to record scores for their candidate, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
