Return Original Bill, - Senate to Jonathan

The Senate will today, write an urgent letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, demanding an urgent return of original copy of the 1999 Constitution Amendment Bill.
Already, the Senate President, David Mark, has mandated the Senate Committee on the 1999 Constitution Amendment to urgent draft the letter and forward same to the president so that he could urgently send the document to the National Assembly.
The development followed a motion moved by the Deputy Senate President,Ike Ekweremadu, during Thurday’s plenary that Jonathan failed to accompany his letter vetowing the bill with original copy of the bill sent to him for assent by the National Assembly.
Ekweremadu, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, informed the Senate that the two-day retreat which the committee had convened to discus the president’s letter could not make much progress due to the absence of the original copy of the bill.
He said the committee temporarily suspended the retreat until it was in possession of the original copy of the amended bill, adding that the work of the committe would be guided by the contents of the bill.
Having listened to Ekweremadu’s submission, the Senate President, who presided over the day’s plenary, asked senators whether they were in support that the president returns the original copy of the bill to the Senate.
All the senators in attendance unanimously agreed that the president returns the original copy of the bill with an “ai” response.
