“The period of politicking is over..unite against hunger - Gov.Shettima

The Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, on Thursday, said Nigerians had a common enemy in hunger, poverty, unemployment and diseases.
Shettima said that rather than fight one another, Nigerians should unite and support the federal and state governments to tackle the challenges besetting the country.

Speaking at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Maiduguri during the presentation of Certificates of Return to him and other winners of the elections in the state, Shettima said this was the time for all Nigerians to battle the country’s common enemies.
The governor said with the emergence of winners and losers at the elections, an end should be brought to all political struggles for now.
He said, “The period of politicking is over in Borno State. This is the time to work for the people that elected us into office, so that the pledges made on dividends of democracy during the electioneering campaigns are fulfilled, without betraying the voters that defied Boko Haram insurgency at the polls in the state.
“It’s time for all politicians to unite for the good of the people.”
He promised to operate an all-inclusive government, noting that power “is a humbling experience to me and I pledge to work with all irrespective of political, social or any differences in the state.”
Shettima acknowledged that the task before him was enormous, stressing that he would have to face the daunting challenges of healing the “physical and psychological wounds” inflicted on the people of Borno during the six-year Boko Haram insurgency.
