A 42-year-old man, Joshua Apanisile, has been remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri after standing as surety for his wife, Kehinde, who jumped police bail in Idimu, Lagos State, western Nigeria.This followed his arraignment before a Magistrates’ court sitting in Ejigbo for perversion of justice over his wife’s escape.
Joshua Apanisile's wife, Kehinde, was involved in an alleged criminal matter and was arrested by the police at Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu, Lagos.Apanisile was contacted and he went to the command and stood as surety for her.Joshua signed the bail bond and promised to produce Kehinde any timethe police requested for her.The police released her to him based on the agreement they reached.However, Kehinde did the unthinkable after she was released from custody. She sensed that she would face trial and possibly go to prison for the alleged offence because of the seriousness of the crime.She packed her property from her husband’s house and moved out without informing her husband or any member of their family.
Since then, she has been in hiding which has landed her husband in trouble and prison.
According to the Source, when her husband contacted her on phone, she asked him to go to the police and sort himself out and switched off her phones.When police requested for Kehinde from her husband, he told the police that she has fled from home and he could not find her.The police arrested him and charged him to court for perversion of justice.When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr P.E. Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.He was reamanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.The matter was adjourned till 8 July, 2015.
