Armed Men attacks Newly wedded couple in Owerri Enroute Reception, one Killed

A newly wedded couple (names withheld) was attacked by a gang of armed robbers in Owerri at the weekend.
The couple who was just joined in holy matrimony at Chimezie Catholic Parish, Mgbuishii, Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State in company of the video camera man and others, on their way to the reception ground, were attacked by the gang.

The video camera man died instantly while the photographer, and others were badly hurt.
An indigene of the community who preferred not to be mentioned in print, identified the dead video camera man as Mr. Isaac Ezirim, while the wounded photographer was identified as Mr. Julius Ashigbu.
“The incident took place at the outskirts of Mgbuishii, a sleepy rural community that over the years have been very peaceful but is now getting notorious for all manner of serious crimes lately,” the villager lamented.

He recounted,
“Masked men jumped out of a nearby bush and attacked the bridal train. The robbers first attacked the vehicle conveying the bride and groom. Unfortunately, the bullets struck the video camera man and the photographer but the driver of the vehicle sped off.
“Friends and relations of the couple, who were in the convoy, were also robbed of cash and other personal valuables, including telephone handsets. I am sure the hoodlums targeted the couple but since they missed them, they descended on all the vehicles in the convoy, the anonymous villager added.”

A close friend of the couple (names withheld) also said that the wedding, which was taken to the home of the groom, was eventful and free of any of such unfortunate incident until the bridal train started moving to Owerri for the reception.
