Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has appointed a 72-year old carpenter, Olatunde Afolayan, as caretaker chairman of Moba Local Government Area of his state.
Mr. Afolayan, an illiterate, was on Friday sworn-in as chairman along with Bayode Ayeni and Owolabi Ajewole, who were appointed for Ikole and Ijero councils respectively,
“In my government, whether you are educated or not, you will get something. The vote of a professor and an illiterate is the same,” he assured.
“So, under my administration, those who are not educated can rise to any level they want.”
The governor also at the ceremony, appointed a graduate as personal assistant for Mr. Afolayan.
Mr. Afolayan, who expressed gratitude for the governor’s gesture, said he had hoped only to become a ward chairman.
He promised to surpass the records of his predecessors so as to justify Mr. Fayose’s stand that local people were intelligent and visionary.
“I have never gone to school for a day, but that does not reduce my intelligence,” he said.
“I may not be educated or have any certificate, but I have brain and experience to lead the affairs of the council.”
