ICPC Set To Go After Amaechi, Akpabio, Fashola, Others.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched an extensive probe into the administrations of some former governors.



A top operative of the commission said that the former governors were Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State; Chief Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema of Katsina and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State.

While the four said to be on the waiting list according to the source are, Mr. Raji Fashola of Lagos State, Godswiil Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State and Alhaji Sule Lamido of Jigawa State.

According to sources, the ICPC has dispatched detectives, the “Chairman Special Team” to scrutinise the expenditures of the former governors while in office.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said:

“The commission is fully prepared to go the whole hog in probing the former governors and, where cases of graft have been established, prosecuting them.

“As it is right now, a powerful crack team named the Chairman Special Task Force, has since been dispatched to Enugu, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Oyo, Rivers and Akwa Ibom, to scrutinise and peruse transactions during the tenures of the former governors.

“We hope to get full cooperation from their successors, some of whom are in full support of the ongoing probes. 

“It is important to let the public know that the ICPC’s commitment to the current government’s anti-corruption policy, is total and unequivocal. 

“Honestly, if the Federal Government could increase its funding of this agency, Nigerians, and indeed the international community will be extremely proud of us.
“From what I have just told you, you can see that the former chief executives cut across party lines and that tells you that the commission does not look at who is involved, but what is involved.”
The ICPC was learned decided to probe the former governors following petitions against them by some members of the public.
The Resident Consultant, Media and Events, of the ICPC, Mr. Folu Olamiti, refused to comment on the story when contacted.
