Stoning of Satan is a ritual by the Muslims otherwise called "Jamarat,"
It is a symbolic reenactment of Abraham's hajj, where he stoned three pillars representing the temptation to disobey God and preserve Ishmael.
Muslim pilgrims fling pebbles at three walls (formerly pillars), in the city of Mina just east of Mecca. It is one of a series of ritual acts that must be performed in the Hajj.
On the 10th day ( Eid al-Adha)of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah), pilgrims must strike only one of the large jamrah with seven pebbles. After the stoning is completed on the day of Eid, every pilgrim must cut or shave their hair.
Despite the death of over 717 and 850 injured in the Thursday Stampede in Mecca, the Islamic duty was still carried out in the last rite of the annual Hajj in Mina on Friday.
