In what has now been described as the worst attack in french history since world war II, Friday night will be remembered for years to come, as Gunmen numbering about eight (8) in number carried out deadly and highly coordinated attacks in six locations across the capital city of France leaving scores dead.
He added:
Officers entered the venue where hostages were being held but attackers, wearing suicide belts, blew themselves up, leaving Scores dead.
He added:
Seven attackers died during the incidents, he said.
"We can say at this stage of the investigation there was probably three coordinated teams of terrorists behind this barbaric act," he said.
He also confirmed that French authorities had a security file on one of the attackers, who had a criminal record, but had never spent time in jail.
At least three suspects were arrested in the Belgian capital, Brussels, in relation to the attacks, Molins confirmed. He said the individuals were not known to French authorities.
The coordinated assaults came as France, a member of the US-led coalition waging air strikes against ISIL fighters in Syria and Iraq, was on high alert for attacks ahead of a global climate conference due to open later this month.
The deadliest attack was on the Bataclan, a popular concert venue where a Californian rock group, Eagles of Death Metal, was performing.
The concert hall is just a few hundred metres from the former offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, target of a deadly attack in January.
In near simultaneous attacks, three suicide bombs targeted spots around the national Stade de France stadium, north of the capital, where Hollande was watching an exhibition football match between France and Germany.
Around the same time, attackers targeted a string of cafes in a trendy Paris neighbourhood, which were crowded on an unusually balmy November night.
In total, 129 were killed in the attacks, while 352 were injured - 99 of them seriousl -Aljazeera reports
ISIS have reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks, shortly after the French President pointed the finger at the Islamic terror group.
A statement allegedly released by Islamic State (translated from French) reads:
‘Eight brothers carrying explosive belts and guns targeted areas in the heart of the French capital that were specifically chosen in advance: the Stade de France during a match against Germany which that imbecile Francois Hollande was attending; the Bataclan where hundreds of idolaters were together in a party of perversity as well as other targets in the 10th, 11th and 18th arrondissement.Francois Hollande said the attacks were an ‘act of war’ and had been planned and organised from abroad with the help of people in France.
‘France and those who follow its path must know that they remain the principle targets of the Islamic State.’
The statement goes on to say France is a key target after ‘having dared insult our Prophet, having bragged about fighting Islam in France and striking Muslims in the Caliphate with their planes which have not helped them in any way in the ill-smelling streets of Paris.
‘This attack is just the start of a storm and a warning for those who wish to draw lessons.’
He added:
‘France is strong and even if she is wounded she will always get up.’ He has declared three days of national mourning.Julien Pearce,an eyewitness who was at the theatre listening to American rock band Eagles Of Death Metal before the horror unfolded has described the ‘10 horrific minutes’ when gunmen stormed the Bataclan concert hall.
Officers entered the venue where hostages were being held but attackers, wearing suicide belts, blew themselves up, leaving Scores dead.
‘I saw two terrorists from my point of view with AK47 Kalashnikovs entering the concert room and firing randomly to the crowd. People yelled, screamed,’ he said in an interview with CNN which was broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live.
‘It lasted for 10 minutes, 10 minutes, 10 horrific minutes where everybody was on the floor covering their head, and we heard so many gunshots and the terrorists were very calm, very determined, and they reloaded three or four times their weapons.Francois Molins, Paris prosecutor, on Saturday night said that three teams of "terrorists" had struck seven times in the French capital on Friday night and that at least one of the attackers had been holding a Syrian passport.
‘And they didn’t shout anything, they didn’t say anything.’
He said: ‘They were wearing black clothes and they were shooting at people on the floor.’
Mr Pearce said that people tried to find an exit to escape and when he got out on the street he saw 20 to 25 people lying on the ground.
Seven attackers died during the incidents, he said.
