G-77 Forum Not Formed to Confront Buhari – Sen. Akpabio

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, at a press briefing on Tuesday after  the G-77 Senators’ Forum meeting said the group was not formed to confront President Muhammadu Buhari or anyone.

Akpabio also noted that the group said to comprise mainly first time Senators was not initiated to tackle old senators.

Akpabio, who stated this at a press briefing after a meeting of the group in Abuja, said that although it is true that G-77 Senators was formed, the purpose was to deepen democracy and ensure good governance.

The former Akwa Ibom governor noted that rather than confront President Buhari as erroneously assumed in some quarters, the group will support the President to actualize his dreams for the country.

He noted that apart from working to deepen democracy, the group was formed to shore up the dwindling image of the Senate.

He said, “It is not meant to confront Mr. President or to confront old Senators. There is nothing like that. It is true that G-77 Senators emerged but it is not to confront anybody.”
