"This Idea of Always Hearing Things From our President when he is Outside the country is offensive —NHRC Boss

Professor Chidi Odinkalu,the chairman National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), on Wednesday, tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to provide responsible leadership and go beyond just body language  in governance.

Odinkalu, in a lecture he delivered at the second Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) Annual Colloquium in Abuja wondered why Buhari would choose to make his action plans first known to foreign audiences, rather than speaking to Nigerians.
Odinkalu who found it in bad taste that President Buhari's plans for Nigerian, is usually first-heard during his visits to foreign countries said;
“You can't lead a country by body language; we need a leadership that will trust our people and speak to our people,” he said and urged the president to speak to Nigerians directly.
“Change from where we are to where we want to get to involves a discussing process of leaders talking to Nigerians. The idea of always hearing things from our president when he is outside the country is offensive. We need a leadership that will trust our people, speak to our people like we are mature, speak to us like we own this country”.

The NHRC chairman was referring to the president's earlier visit to Ghana, where he announced that he would constitute his cabinet before the end of September and the recent disclosure in Paris, France, that the Federal Government was negotiating with Boko Haram to secure the release of Chibok girls.
