Abuja High Court Sacks Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP Chairman

Embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has been removed by a high court sitting in Abuja
The court sitting presided over by Justice Valentine Ashi, on Wednesday ordered Ali Sheriff to vacate the seat as acting chairman with immediate effect faulting the process through which he emerged the party’s national chairman.
Ashi in his ruling Wednesday,29th June said the amendment was a violation of the Electoral Act and described the actions of the PDP leaders who partook in the amendment as illegal.
Sheriff, a former governor of Borno state, was appointed as PDP’s national chairman in the interim by the party’s stakeholders after former deputy national chairman, Chief Uche Secondus from the South-East was removed from the position of acting chairman due to zoning arrangement.
The 2014 amendment had purportedly zoned the office of the party chairman to the North-East zone.
